This week we will be running a 1-6 period class schedule today, Wednesday, and Thursday.

 

Ever wonder what it takes to be a chemical engineer? Please join us at our next Career Lunch and hear about the path Gara Villalba has taken in becoming a chemical engineer. The career lunch will be on Wednesday, March 2 in the Learning Center.  Sign up ahead of time in the counseling office. Be one of the first 40 students by Friday February 26 to sign up and receive lunch.

 

Have you lost your cell phone? A cell phone was turned in last week. To identify and claim, please see Mrs. Ramsey in the principal’s office.

 

Arts Night will be on Friday, March 4th. Come to watch your friends perform and show off their artistic talents.

 

Are you interested in a summer job working in Yosemite, come learn about the YCC program on February 11th during lunch in the counseling office. This will be a 15-20 minute meeting to explain the YCC program and the type of work the park is looking to accomplish with the program this year.

 

If you are interested in attending this year's Young Writers' Conference, please remember to submit your sample writing to Turnitin by Thursday, Feb 11.

 

ASB NEWS

 

Hope all of you are wearing Green & Gold today in honor of our amazing Winter Sports teams and our incredibly school and amazing students!! Go Grizzlies. We'll see you at the rally this afternoon for some good 'ole Grizzly fun!

 

Next week kicks off Spirit Week as we gear up for Winter Formal, girls and boys basketball playoffs, and Wrestling's next move. Tuesday, the first day back from our four-day weekend, will be SPORTS DAY. Come dressed in your finest athletic attire to celebrate our incredible athletic program here at MCHS! Wednesday will be Generation Day (freshman dress up as infants/babies, Sophomores are toddlers, juniors are young adults, seniors are senior citizens), Thursday will be Superhero Day, and Friday will be Formal Color Day (wear orange, pink, and gold!). Let's have some fun!

 

Did you know that in India, grasping one's ears is a sign of sincerity? So reach out to your special someone (hey, it is Valentine's Day this weekend!), gently grasp their ears with sincerity, and ask them to to go to Midnight in Mumbai with you, our exciting upcoming Winter Formal. It's being held next Saturday, February 20th, in the Mariposa Tajmapalace, a.k.a our gym, from 9:00-12:00. Tickets are already on sale! Buy yours today at lunch and avoid the long lines of waiting till the last minute. $8 with ASB card (you must have your card), or $10 without.  You can also request a dance songs at the  ticket sales table this week and next week at lunch, to have your musical selections played at the Formal! To bring a guest, you must pick up an application and return it to the Main Office by Tuesday. Come get your tickets today for this exciting event!

Ever go to a dance and wish the DJ would play your jam? Well, for this Winter's Midnight in Mumbai Formal, you can make this happen! Request a song at the dance ticket sales table this week and next week at lunch, and let your voice be heard!

 

Students and teachers, get ready for our Winter Sports & Formal Rally this Thursday afternoon. We will honor Winter Sports, enjoy a fabulous performance by our own Mariposa High's Dance CLub, get ready for Spirit Week next week, play some games, and be proud to be a Grizzly! See you there!

Seniors, scholarship season is upon us! Check out the updated list of local scholarships under the counseling section of the MCHS website!

 

The CIF Spirit of Sport scholarship nomination has an early deadline of  Thursday, February 11. Stop by the counseling office for an application, if you are interested.

 

Seniors Merced College Staff is coming to our campus on February 17th at 9:30 to sign up students for college. If there is a chance you may be attending Merced College do not miss this important opportunity. Please sign up in the counseling office.

 

Graduating Seniors – If you are interested in applying for the PG&E STEMS scholarship, the deadline is February 29th. Please pick up a flyer with details on how to apply in the counseling office.

 

SPORTS REPORT for the week of February 8, 2016

 

Golf meeting at the beginning of lunch today in Mr. Ellis’s room.

 

Be sure to join us for the basketball fundraiser at Steve’s Sportsman Cafe on Friday, Feb. 12,  7-11am and Sat., Feb 13,  8-11am.

           Pancake breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage, and coffee.  We appreciate your support!    

 

Varsity and JV Football off season workouts today after school.  This applies to students planning to participate in football next season who are not currently participating in a sport. (2/12)

CLUB NEWS

 

Dance club rehearsal at the beginning of lunch in the gym. Bring your shoes and be there ASAP!

 

Rotary members, there will be an interact meeting today in Mr. Abney's room at lunch.

Are you in need of Tutoring? ONE Mariposa has tutors available every Thursday after school in the Learning Center. Many of the tutors are retired teachers able to tutor in all subjects including AP courses. Sign up in the Learning Center by Wednesday each week in you are in need of tutoring on Thursday - the following day.


The Learning Center is open at 7:45 before school and at lunch to check out books, work on homework, print out homework, get help with homework, or make an appointment for tutoring. Mrs. Duncan and Mrs. Long are ready to help you. The Learning Center is open after school every day until 4:20 for homework time or tutoring services.

ASB will be having a Snapchat Geo-Tag art contest. Enter a hand drawn art piece that you think should represent the school, and send it to Mrs. Parry in room 54 for a chance to win a prize and see your art on snapchat. Contest ends March 11th.

 

Grizzlies, tomorrow is a GREEN & GOLD DRESS UP DAY!! Come in your finest grizzly gear to showcase your school pride & send our wrestling team off to sectionals this week with some Go-get-em Grizzly spirit!!!

This week’s Count Me in Perfect Attendance winners are:  Megan Mellow and Gage Mogelberg.  They have won $10. gift certificates.

 

Congratulations to Sydney Keeton for winning four medals at last Saturday’s  academic decathlon competition in Madera County. Sydney won Bronze for Science, Silver for both Literature and Art, and Gold for Music. Anyone interested in next year’s academic decathlon competition should see Ms. Monson in room 23. Let’s represent in 2017!

 

Auditions will take place TODAY in the auditorium at 3 p.m. for Disney's Cinderella.  You must audition to be considered for a part.  See Mr. Starchman in Room 1 if you have any questions.

SPORTS REPORT for the week of February 8, 2016

 

Congratulations to the girls JV basketball team as they defeated Waterford 38-37 to clinch the Southern League Championship.  Way to go lady grizzlies!

 

Congratulations to the girls varsity basketball team as they defeated Waterford for their twentieth victory of the season.  With a win over Delhi on Tuesday, Mariposa will win its first Southern League Championship in twenty-two years.
