HAPPENING TODAY 

 

Students who have outside lockers, listen closely. Beginning next week, the outside breezeway gates will be locked during break and lunch on a daily basis. You will not have access to lockers during break or lunch. You have the option to obtain a locker in the main building.  Again, nobody will have access to outside lockers during break or lunch. Please see Mrs. Bryson in the office if you have questions and/or want to obtain a locker inside.

 

Food Service News:

IF it is raining during lunch, there will be NO sandwich cart.  We will serve lunch out of all three windows and have PB&J's available at each window.

Are you eligible to join the California Scholarship Federation this semester? CSF is the state's oldest Honor Society and is recognized by Colleges.  Freshman are now eligible based on Fall grades. Lists of CSF-eligible students are posted outside the Counseling Office, and applications are available inside.  Please request transcripts from Ms. Weinburke, and turn in your application and 5 dollar dues BEFORE the first meeting of the  new year, which will be  Wednesday, January  24th in Room 9.

 

 

Winter Formal is coming up! It will be on Feb. 15th and the theme is A Night Out of this World! ASB will start selling tickets on January 29th!

 

UPCOMING FIELD TRIPS 

Drama Club is taking a field trip to see Seussical the Musical at Playhouse Merced in February.  Mr. Starchman has 15 additional seats and they are available to students on a first come, first served basis for just $5 a ticket.  See Mr. Starchman in Room 1 for more details.

 

The Fresno State Young Writers' Conference is an opportunity for student writers to have their work published in the Spectrum anthology; earn cash awards, honors and recognition for their writing, learn creative writing techniques by graduate students; as well as, hear Mai Der Vang, a published poet and winner of the 2016 Walt Whitman Award from the Academy of American Poets, speak about the craft of writing.  Fresno State's Master's in Creative Writing is a nationally recognized program and has produced two United States' Poet Laureates, the ultimate accolade for an American Poet.  If you are interested in attending the conference, come to a mandatory meeting Friday at lunch in room 53 to find out what you need to do to attend.

SPORTS REPORT     

Track and Field Athletes: Anyone interested in participating in Track and Field, there will be a meeting during lunch on Tuesday, Jan. 23rd. in room 55 ( Mr. DeSandres). Bring your lunch. We'll talk about starting date, first meet, paperwork, preseason conditioning, and answer any questions you may have. Bring a friend!

 

CLUB NEWS

Spanish club is selling t-shirts, sweatshirts, and long sleeve t-shirts through February 12th.  Orders can be made through Quinn Whatley.

 

Come and join the Ukulele Club, next Wednesday January 24th in the auditorium at lunch.  All are welcome.  We will be learning some basic and not-so-basic tricks.  Some extra ukuleles are available if you don't have your own.

 

Join the cool kids and order your Drama Club laser cat t-shirt today.  All shirts are just $14 and are locally made by Pathos Screen Printing.  See Mr. Starchman in Room 1 for an order form.

MFE/ALA conference students reminder that we leave this weekend Sunday, January 21 at 8am.  Please be in full uniform when you arrive.

If you are attending and do not have a FFA jacket, scarf or tie, please see an Ag teacher as soon as possible to get one!

 

 

 

HOMEWORK HELP & TUTORING AVAILABLE

The Learning Center is open at 7:45 before school and at lunch to check out books, work on homework, print out homework, get help with homework, or make an appointment for tutoring. Mrs. Long is ready to help you. The Learning Center is open after school every day until 4:15 for homework time or tutoring services. 

Please remember to bring your ID or ASB card to the Learning Center when checking out a textbook or a chromebook.  When checking out a chromebook please remember to return it by the end of the day so it can be charged and ready for the next student to use.

There will be a Spanish Club meeting in room 59 at lunch on Thursday, January 18th.  Bring $20-35 for any t-shirt orders. $5 dues also need to be paid so we can do more activities.

 

Students who are interested in traveling to France in 2019, please plan on having your parents attend the parent meeting on Wednesday at 6 pm in room 53.  This is NOT a school sponsored event.

 

Vet Science practice has been cancelled for Wednesday at lunch but practice WILL still happen Thursday after school from 3:30-5pm.

 

Students working on State degree apps you may see Mr. Rowley Thursday at lunch or Mrs. Wise Friday at lunch if you need your book looked over.  They are DUE Friday this week!
